Painter, figure and landscape

Born in Newton Heath in 1842 and moved with his family to Oldham in 1872.

Studied at Manchester School of Art and went to France to paint in 1872, on returning took up a post at Oldham School of Art, his pupils included amongst others William Stott and George Henry Wimpenny.

He married in 1885, Ada Mary Greaves and the couple had a daughter, Ellen in 1888.

He continued to paint in Europe, Belgium and Sweden becoming a member of Belgium  Academy of Fine Arts.

His paintings can be seen in Oldham Gallery.
